Weight to horsepower questions

I have a 1972 115hp on the back of a 1972 sportcraft 19’ c eagle. From some research I found that this boat weighs about 1400 dry.
how much does this engine weigh?
Does this seem light for a boat?
Is this enough engine for this boat?
If the boat is 1400 dry what is the estimated weight wet or is there a formula for that?

Hi...all depends on the engine, hull, prop combo. Also how you want to use it and expect from it.
I might also add, that if that 115 motor is the motor I think it is...then they pinch well above their weight. As in I’m assuming it’s the mighty 115 tower of power straight 6 ?

Correct. It’s the mercury 1150 thunderbolt.
I want to use it mainly for fishing out the Chesapeake bay. get me from spot to spot. Maybe some water fun with a water tube of it’s possible.
I’m not certain about the prop pitch n all that besides the fact that it has 3 blades and it’s black (not aluminum).

Should be plenty power then. Well propped you’ll have no issues. So much power to their weight.

Thanks for the info. I am waiting on a $30 carb Venturi to do a water test and I may be getting anxious.

Lots of possible "gotchas" in what you are attempting to do with an engine that old. On power vs weight, for a semi V hull [V at the front (bow) and flat at the rear (stern)] you have enough power "potential" to run 40+ MPH with that engine on that light of a hull.

I started out on the Bay with a boat of similar size and power many years ago.

The engine is fine. Your not going anywhere in a hurry. Conditions will limit your speed in a boat that size and weight.

Thank you everyone for the support. I know it’s a lot that goes into that question like how much weight on the boat water conditions prop size trim degree modifications to the boat etc. so I just wanted to make sure it shouldn’t be no reason not to hit plane.
