This is the second time this happens. The first time the batt. was dead and I charged it, put it in but motor would charge it. So I went and exchanged the batt. thinking it was bad and put a new one in. Cranked up the motor and it was charging. Well yesterday I went out and again engine not charging. Engine is a 93 Yamaha 150, will this engine stop charging a bad batt. or or does the engine not know the difference between a bad batt. or a good one. Should I start checking the charging system or what.

Yes, test your charging circuit starting with the rectifier/regulator.

Re: Weird charging problem.

I will test tomorrow. Can it be possible for the reg./rec. work and then not work. Because like I said its done it twice. Anyways I will be checking it out. Also any responce to, does the engine know if the batt. is bad or not, or will the engine always put out no matter the condition of the batt.

Thanks

Yes they can work intermittantly due to heat. And no your motor does not know if the battery is good or not. If there is any doubt, have it load tested at your local auto parts store. Most important is to be sure all connections are very clean and tight.

Re: Weird charging problem.

well turn it to a/c volts
start motor up
rev it to 1500rpm
put the meter leads on motor
if you see more than .7 volts bad reg/rect
