Weird problem with Outlook Express***RESOLVED***

Today I opened my email and I had a number of emails, all the same title, all the same subject, all the same time and date. They were all from '2008 Credit Report' with the subject being ' TransUnion, Equifax, Experian Credit Reports and Scores'. If you open an email there is nothing in it.

I deleted them all. Now every time I open OE I get another one of these, I then get an error notice on the bottom bar. If I hit 'send/receive' another one shows up then up pops a box that shows 1 of 9 downloaded and the rest are listed as below.

Message number 2 could not be retrieved. Account: 'pop3.comcast.net', Server: 'pop3.comcast.net', Protocol: POP3, Server Response: '', Port: 110, Secure(SSL): No, Server Error: 0x800CCC90, Error Number: 0x800420CD

I emailed myself a test email and it does not come thru because it is downloading one of the credit report emails and then goes to error again.

Any ideas what is going on and how to deal with it?

Have you tried a reset? Many of us use the computers soooooo much we fail to reset them often.

You know shut everything down cpu and modem for at least 60 seconds and re-boot.

I have found this helps. The other situation might be strictly with comcast..... they are known for issues.

Re: Weird problem with Outlook Express

It appears that you have some settings either in OutLook Express or your email server that is thwarting the proper delivery of the email.Let us say for example that your email server will not accept messages larger than say....5mb and the message that is being sent is larger than that.
The sender(his email program) will continue to try to send the message because it will remain in his outbox until it is successfully sent.
This is just speculation but your line of thinking should be directed in that area it would seem to me.
If you could somehow get the whole message that would fix it.
You can set OutLook Express to break apart large messages when they are sent to overcome this limitation and if that is done the recieving end would get a series of messages such as you are getting and after the last message arrives the email program will automatically assemble them again as a whole full size post and if that is happening you just have to wait for them all to arrive in your mailbox.Ron G

Go to your email host site and mark those emails as spam, and delete them. In my case, Gmail is my email host site so I would go there and log in using my email address and password. You can do the same at comcast.net

Here is a Link to their site.

Thanks all. Problem resolved. Previously I had tried rebooting to no avail. Also I had downloaded all MS updates.

I went directly to the email server (comcast.net) and found a single offending 'credit report' email. I marked it as spam and it went away. There were also several other legitimate emails sitting there that had been unable to upload to OE.

I then went back to Outlook Express and there were no more attempts to download the offending email. I then did a test email to myself and it came right thru.

I'm glad i was able to help. That is the main reason why I use Gmail, an internet based email instead of my centrytel email address. Gmail has a wonderful spam filter, as do many others, that my Microsoft Outlook does not even try to download. I do check the spam folder from time to time, just to check and make sure something did not get filtered that I really needed. Probably the best feature is that if something does get through, once I make it as spam, it will never let that sender back through again...

Bob, I really wonder if it was a comcast problem. It was a funny email, with no text inside it. Makes me wonder if the email was not intended to wreak havoc.

Do you have another cable system or are you on DSL?

I have also quite using OE, if you ask me it causes to many head aches. I like checking my email on the host's website. It is also faster for me, being that I'm dial up just to go to my host website and it pulls up without any flaws and seems to be pretty fast. Now a days I also get email alerts on my phone, something I have always wanted for my email service (on my computer) but never had before.

Pretty neat when you can check your email on the go, and surf the internet on your phone.
