So I have 2000 chap sis sport 5.7l GSI , went to auto zone to get plug wires and rotor and cap. So I just told them I need all that for a 2000 5.7 liter chevy. But the only thing that matched what is in the motor was the 93-96 5.7 liter. What's up with that. ?

Can't usually source the Marine parts from an auto store. NAPA has a way to order them for you I think for some. The ignition systems on boats differ a lot sometimes, and even when they look the same they are a few years behind the automotive counterpart. The plug wires for the Marine are a lot longer also then what you get for automotive. Best to source your parts from Marine suppliers, using year, model and serial numbers.

Chevy was in the middle of switching over to the LS style vortec's in autos/trucks I believe they used the 5.7 in commercial trucks well into the 2000's though. Along with the 4.3 and 7.4

The distributor cap is supposed to be rated for marine use (spark suppression) so be sure that is what you asked for and got. Boat engines usually lag a few years behind their automotive equivalents, so common parts are not always a one-for-one.

the marine ignition systems are NOT supplied by GM like the motor and have nothing to do with automotive applications. your volvo penta ignition system may come from Delco or Prestolite depending on the year and purchasing agreements at volvo, however it is designed specifically for your marine motor.

places like NAPA (mentioned above) are an authorized Sierra marine distributor, so NAPA can get you parts for your boat as well as your car

or places like iBoats sell parts too
