Bob_VT started the idea. Thanks, Bob.

tashasdaddy now has the exclusive title of "Chief of the Boat".

For those non-Navy types, Chief of the Boat is the senior enlisted person on a ship, primary consultant to the Captain on crew matters and the guy who trains Ensigns how to deal with "white hats".

Congratulations, TD. :)

LOL .... I was only a lowly PO3, but we used to have our own ways to "train" the young ensigns! :D

Re: Welcome aboard, "Chief of the Boat"

Isn't it only Submarines that have a "Chief of the Boat"

Surface ships have a "Master Chief Petty Officer"

And isn't it the case with modern subs that they dive for months on end, with no comunication allowed.
;) ;)

Master Chief is a rank in USN, RPJS, Chief of the Boat is a title held by only one person per ship.

In land based Navy units, his title is Leading Chief.

Subs on patrol keep in touch, but If I told you how I would have to smite you. :)

I was sure you only have a "Chief of the Boat" on subs

Yes, Oops. They are conferred and exclusive titles. Admin has indicated that members who have made major contributions as helpers and/or moderators to the forums and exceeded 20,000 posts may be invited (by Admin) to select a unique title. I think that qualification excludes habitual padders.

Members who are approaching those qualifications that I can immediately think of are SpinnerBait Nut, DJ and Don S.

Congrats TD. Like most other 'newbies' on these forums, we've already garnered some of your knowledge in the short time we've been here and the new title certainly attests to the many newbies as well as seasoned boat vets you've helped along the way.

This newbie agrees whole heartedly. And as far as the title goes (surface ship versus sub), I'm fine with it. It infers the kind of respect and admiration earned by an individual with years of experience and dedication. After all, this forum is about BOATS, right?!!!

Congratulations, TD, and many thanks for all you've done.
