Well found some interesting information out about one of my guns.

Almost 2 years ago, I posted some images of a gun that I purchased at a Garage sale for $20 bucks that I ended up giving to my Dad for Christmas and he gave it back to me, when his health was going down hill.

This is the gun:

Well for close to 2 years now, I have been emailing back and forth with the Museum in Cody WY about this gun and as far as they have been able to figure out, this gun was actually one of the guns that was used in the Wild Bill Cody Western Show, apparently Bill Cody purchased guns directly from the manufacture and had them nickle plated for his show and this guns serial number falls in the range of guns that were purchased for the show in the later stages of the show.

We have all acknowledged this gun has been poorly refinished and needs to be restored, but it was not a home nickle plating job, Bill Cody and crew had their guns sent to an individual who did the plating outside the gun industry, but he did do several guns over the years for other major stars as well, including John Wayne, Clark Gable, Annie Oakly.

The Cody gun museum only has one example of this gun and they value theirs at over $100K and they have requested that I send or bring the gun down to their investigative dept, so they can research it further.

So a trip to Cody, WY may now be in my future, Darn it!

Any gun for $20 bucks is a good deal...you on the other hand may have stumbled onto a real 'Roadshow antiques' treasure! Can't wait to see how it finally turns out!

Cool. Don't send it to them, hand carry only. I can see how something like this could get 'lost in the mail' :(

Well as soon as I seen "gun" in the title, I had to read. Sounds like you stumbled onto something more important then a typical cheap find. If this does turn out to be of great importance, DON"T get it refinished. The collector's valve is the original gun and finish and any new finish would drop that total value. JMHO

It is just a simple old .22 gallery gun, I will take a trip in the future to take it down to them, so see what they have to say after seeing it in person, I don't have my hopes up, but it sure would be fun to have stumbled upon a historic gun.

It will be fun to find out if this gun has a long and storied past, I am intrigued, but not that hopeful, but it has been a while since I have been to the museum, so it will be fun to visit again.

Just as another note, anybody that visits Cody, WY, if you don't visit the museum, then you are missing one of the great wonders of the world!

Until I can get it to them in person, I won't do anything to it as it could be a piece of history.

Looking at the round barrel I am guessing that it is a Winchester Mod 1906. They were pretty much the same as the 1890 mod but with the round barrel. It must have been used in his show late in his career has old Bill hung up his circus spurs about 5 or 10 years after that.

From my understanding of what they told me, he was no longer involved in the show when this gun was made, like I said, it will b interesting to see what they have to say after they see it in person.

What a lousy finish on that old gun, and ugly too ... I will take it off your hands for $40 and allow you a 100% profit! šŸ˜›

Cool bit of history and awesome find ... Well worth the $20 even if it doesn't turn out to be a "Wild West" gun!

MTB, I think I have a similar rifle around here some where, but mine is a Ross gallery rifle if I remember correctly. Fun little rifles to shoot all the same.

MTB; Look out for a scam. Speck has made you a low ball offer. I am willing to give $50 for that old gun.

I have several old guns with interesting stories behind them but none as neat as yours. It gives me a good feeling some times to just try and draw a mental picture of where they have been.
