I have the oportunity to store my boat in a wet slip for about the same $ I can garage it. I plan on using the boat quite a bit this summer, so am leaning towards the wet slip. What negatives area associated with wet storage for 8 mos out of the year? Thanks in advance.

Hugh
A lot depends and where you store it and if it is saltwater or fresh. Boats that sit in the water without a good bottom paint will get moss on them, worse is saltwater. If it has any leaks it will sink or fill with water from rain. Make sure auto bildge pump works and battery is charged. Theft, your $2000 color depth finder and GPS may not stay onboard. You will always end up going to the same place instead of lots of different places. You will be getting fuel at a high priced marinea instead of lower priced gas station. You will n probably not do as much maintenance as you should.

hugh - The least hastle way is to stick it in a marina that has rack storage with in/out service. That is the most convenient.

I had that setup for a couple of years in the Fla Keys. It was great to call the marina and find the boat sitting in the water when I got there. On the flip side, at the end of the day I did not have to sweat dead batteries, bilge pumps not working, sudden storms and crappy bottom paint.

If I had the choice, I'd go with the rack storage too. It lets everything dry out between trips and the boat is not susceptible to the hazards of being in the water all the time. Agree with points made about being at the mercy of the marina, though, on fuel, etc.

Rack storage puts you at the mercy of not only the marina gas prices but the fact that you can't even see your boat to work on it, sit on it and have a beer on a wavy day, or just tinker with it without a phone call and wait to have your boat put in the water. My boat is in the water, rack storers feel free to comment.

I do see the points of bottom condition, wear and tear etc.

If you can afford to keep it in the water, then that is obviously the most convienient option. my power boat is on a trailer and my sailboat is in the water and I use the sail the most. if you ever have your boat in the water it will be hard to go back, it is just too easy to walk down the dock, get on and go go go ...............
