Re: wet plugs

To help you with what problem thunderxky? Wet plugs? How wet?Which plugs are you using? Is this engine running?Recomended sparkplugs are Champion L77JC4 or QL77JC4 gapped at .030".

Re: wet plugs

Plugs are probably ok. When it "bogs down", have you tried pumping the bulb or bumping the choke?

c/6

Hooty

Re: wet plugs

HELLO HOOTY! no i have not tried that yet, but i will when i put it on the lake again, it runs great here with muffs on, just that last little bit of throttle that it gives me a problem. as soon as i can figure out the right manual for my motor, im going to rebuild the carbs, when i go to the manual seaction on here, it only shows three or so manuals. does these manuals cover all types of evinrudes, or can i buy one just for my model and where??? should the plugs be dry and gray ish looking???

Re: wet plugs

thunderxky,Plugs should appear slightly oily with a sort of paper sack color .Your idea of rebuilding the carbs is a good one.Hooty's water test suggestion will confirm whether a high speed orifice restriction is present or if fuel pump is in need of attention. If you need a factory manual specific to your engine you could try your local dealer or web page

Re: wet plugs

hello OB, HOOTY, AND ALL! i have took all 3 plugs out several times, and every time the same, they are wet, i can rub my fingure across the end and have oil and gas on my fingures. i took it to the lake this eveing and the same, open WOT and the bow lifts up like its going to take off and plane out, but then it just looses power and spits and spats. i tried bumping the choke, but it just killed it. i was by myself and could not try pumping the bulb, but it does stay hard, also i took the hose off that goes to the carbs, put the end in a bottle, started it up and let it run for a little ,and it pumped a lot og gas in that short time about 5 or 6 ounces. enything else i can check untill i get my manual and rebuild my carbs?? thanks thunder

Re: wet plugs

thunderxky,I'm guessing your carbs are fouled.I would just wait on the manual and rebuild carbs.Gummy restrictions in orifices and or porting is very common performance problem with two stroke outboards that have sat out of use for a spell with old fuel in system.Post back with results of carb inspection and rebuild results. You'll also want to check and adjust the carburetor link and synch as per manual.Good luck.
