do they really work? is it worth the money? i have a 14 flat bottom with a 50hp merc

I think that you really wouldn't need one with a 50 hp and 14' flat bottom, are you having problems getting on plane?

Instead of a whale tail, have you checked to see if your motor is raised high enough on the transom?? Your cavitation plate should be about 1 inch higher than the bottom of your boat. Additionally, are you propped correctly?? Is the weight evenly distributed in the boat??

What are you trying to accomplish with a WT??

Whale tales are nothing more than a poor bandaide for an underlying problem.....some less expensive solutions are mentioned above.
