Hello,

A guy around the corner from me has his Boston Whaler 62 parked on a trailer on the street. I haven't seen this thing move in years. It looks like an older boat - but in pretty good shape.

Anyone have any info about this boat? I can't seem to find anything anywhere except that everyone seems to really like Whalers.

I was thinking I might be interested in buying it if he's interested in selling it....

Ahoy, jsfinn.

I assume you mean a 1962 Boston Whaler.

They made a 13' and a 16' in 1962. Both are nearly indestructible hulls with mahogany interiors that need upkeep but can be replaced.

You can get a lot of info on Boston Whalers at www.continuouswave.com

I would buy it in a minute if the price is right and it is a real Boston Whaler. There have been a lot of copies. If it has just been sitting the price may be right. :)

Good luck. :)

Re: Whaler 62

Thanks for the reply, JB.

Honestly, I'm not sure. On the side it says "Boston Whaler 62" and that's really the only markings I see on the outside and I wouldn't be comfortable poking around inside of a strangers boat. It looks to be about 16 feet..maybe a little bigger. It's a center console and does have a little bit of woodwork around the console and bench seat. For what it's worth, the outside of the hull is white on the top and faded brown on the bottom. It's got a 90 HP Johnson on the back that's been painted over. I'll try and get a picture of it this weekend.

My little boat is parked just ahead of it and every time I stop to check on my boat, I also stop to check on the Whaler. ;)

JB,

Thanks for that link - that's a great site.

I figured out it's an Eastport - http://www.continuouswave.com/whaler/reference/16-17/images/eastport384x232.jpeg

The wood doesn't look too bad - it needs some polishing though.

The back seat is missing and has been replaced by some smaller chairs - probably to make more room for fishing. It's got a canvas sun shade too..

The Eastport is a desirable model, jsfinn.

Hit the guy up for an asking price when the weather is real bad.

The wood is mahogany. It will need to be stripped and revarnished. Not hard, just time consuming.

Good luck, and let us know what happens. :)
