Re: WHAT A SNAFU

Sorry but I don't have the EFI knowledge to help... but a thought Don't the engines counter rotate? Is there a differance in the electronics? I'm blind in this area.<br /><br />We all sense your frustration.<br /><br />The gas line under pressure is normal. No gas in the clear tube means good things (fuel pump is working!) if there was gas in the tube it is usually an indication that the fuel pump diaphram has a leak. In Swapping parts are your distibutors tightened? Is the cap right?<br /><br />Good luck. <br />Bob

Tino, don't let them get you down on the caps lock thing.I understood your post OK.About your problem,I'm no expert on these but it sounds like it might still be an electrical problem.Don't think it would be the knock sensor.Do you have the computerized box for the electrical system same as for a car.You may have 2 of them.If so it sounds like the PRT one is malfunctioning.

Re: WHAT A SNAFU

Sounds like you might have the timming off now. might be too retarded. when you back off the throttle you are falling to far back in the timming causing the engine to die. Just a thought but since you nhave been working so hard on the ingnition seems very possible. FYI you can't adjust timming if you have a vacum advance connected or if the rpm is too high. It will mess you up really bad.

Re: WHAT A SNAFU

Mercury Blues most modern marine engines do not have vacumme advance, most efi motors timing advances are controlled by the computer, but tito will have to get a service manual for his engine and go through and use the diagnostic chart to find the solotion, but i would check the throttle postion sensor to see if it has a bad spot in the sweep.

Re: WHAT A SNAFU

Thanks for all your sugestion.<br />i have the svc manuals. <br />i canobalized the parts from the good engine<br />to the prt side. the only thing i did not change out is the black module, attached near dist. right near the gray module..it was to dark..<br />? why would the engine run half or wide open throttle? i can run at about 2000 rpm but as soon as i back off it dies like it is starving for fuel or electrical <br />am i missing something <br />are there fuel filters, beside the fuel water separator.no filter on line to carb.<br />i will be leaving work early so once again i will<br />be down buy my boat with my tools /tunes/cold beer and of course for you individuals who are hung up on caps and grammar i will be reading my grammar book in between. next time i need to write a letter i will post so they can help me...

Re: WHAT A SNAFU

Keep in mind that since the engine runs at higher rpm ranges the problem won't be in the fuel system. the fuel system would have the reverse effect. Stay looking in the electrical area. I am from the older school of engines but that I can garuantee is a correct statement. I don't have any manuals for the EFI systems.

Re: WHAT A SNAFU

Trouble codes are stored in the engines MEFI computer... You need a code reader, like a Codemate (Part #94008) , to retrieve them... <br /> http://216.230.203.183/marine/marine.htm <br /><br />Without checking for stored codes, and checking fuel pressure, your flying blind..<br /><br />ps.. Are we talking about fuel injection here, or carbuerators? Sorry Tino, but you stated both carb and efi so i'm a bit confused..

Re: WHAT A SNAFU

took it to e.r. procession marine, all his does is <br />trouble shoot said you did a great job, but you would have very difficult time with out the computer diagnostic said it was a oxygen sensor <br />only way to find it it by taking off the fuel injection system.... we will see what the out come will be hopefully will get it back for the annual fire island bar crawl.<br /><br />thanks for all your help and support<br /><br />Tino
