What aftermarket alternator do i need???

I have a 1989 4.3l mercruiser. The alternator is bad but I cant make out any of the numbers except that it is a 55amp unit. It has a purple and a red wire coming off the alternator and two studs for a ground and a red wire. It also looks like it has an external voltage regulator. This is a NONSERPENTINE unit. Take it to a re-build shop.

Do you have a local mercruiser dealer? They can steer you in the right direction$$$$$$$$

you can match it up with a newer single wire unit and tape up the unused wires<br /><br />NAPA and other auto stores do sell MARINE units<br /><br />you will only need the wire going to the battery which on mine is orange BUT is not allways the same so your going to have to sure<br /><br /><br />tommays

Go to www.marineparts.com. It might be sierra number 5966 and the new price is 199.00. Rebuilts are about 115.00. There number is 1-800-680-0389. I am sure they can find the right one

I guess you are right. I never even noticed. Someone on here gave me the link so I assumed it was related. I better check and see how much I could have saved using this site. I will make sure not to make that mistake again
