What alternator should I buy

I own a 28' SEASPORT walk around. I just bought a 383 crate motor for it and I dont want to use the old alternator. Do you guys have any recommendations on brand, size, or the best place to buy. I dont need the most expensive one in the world but if there is a real good reason to have it im not afraid to spend the money. Thank you for your help.

The old alternator works fine as far as I know, But I replaced everything in the engine compartment and Ive never replaced the alternator. I know how my luck is and I didnt want the one part I didnt change to leave me stranded. I dont know much about alternators and I didnt want to buy one and then find out that I should have bought something else. Im not looking for the cheapest so I will make sure to buy marine I didnt know if there was a better brand or model.

Look up Balmar online. They have a full selection and great techs to help on the phone.

take your old alternator and starter to a local rebuilder. it will probably cost you $60-80 to have the alternator rebuilt and cleaned up.

agreed don't waste your money and if you really want to makes things simple have him turn it into a one wire alt (self exciter). The "spark arrestor is a piece of$.15 screen.
