what are the pro and cons of premixing on an oil injection engine???

ive heard about everything. i have got a 87 yammie 50.im thinking of removing the oil injection. ive heard it could cause some problems on a yamaha engine b/c of the oil going thru the carbs could gum them up.. i just dont trust those oil injectors at all..what u think..

I think you're wrong. I believe the oil in the Yamaha injection system (someone will correct me if I'm wrong) is injected behind the carbs into the reed manifold (as is Suzuki's). One of the advantages of this is that when your carb jet is clogged the engine still gets some oil. Yamaha oil injection systems are very reliable given reasonable maintenance (check the valves in the oil lines, clean the oil tank and replace the remote oil tank filter). When they fail they usually over oil the engine (not the carburetor). If it isn't broken leave it alone. If it is fix it. If yours carbs are dirty its not the fault of the oil injection.<br /><br />Its OK and advisable to run premix while you investigate the health of the oil injection system. A little temporary double oiling won't hurt anything.

I agree with jimd.<br /> most engine failures are customer neglect and misuse not oil injection failure. I have seen more failures due to customer stupidity than oil pump failures in the past 22 years.<br /> good luck and keep posting

thx jimd..rodbolt..i meant was premix would go thru the carbs and cause problems.the oil is injected behind the carbs thru manifold..
