1963 Bigtwin 40 hp
Electric start, Manual shift, No generator
What do you think its worth in these conditions? This is only for my own curiosity. I bought this motor used from someone I didn't know, and I'm trying to get it started. Is there a rule of thumb that people usually use when pricing old motors?

Starts and runs great. - $
Started last year, but havent ran it since - $
Sitting for 2 years and don't know if it runs? but not siezed - $

1967 fisherman 6 hp

Depends on what comes with it - if you have the complete wiring harness/ignition switch, gas tank, etc. it will be worth more. Also cosmetic condition, if it's been restored/repainted. I just sold a restored 1966 Lark for $500
Starts and runs great. - $
Average conditon with controls, I'd pay $150-175
Started last year, but havent ran it since - $
I'd pay $100-125
Sitting for 2 years and don't know if it runs? but not siezed - $
I'd pay $75-100

1967 fisherman 6 hp

Starts and runs great. - $
$125-150

$75-100
Sitting for 2 years and don't know if it runs? but not siezed - $
$50-75

That's what I'd pay, but I'm cheap and usually buying them to fix up and re-sell. Prices assume they have good compression.

buy cheap, it can easily cost 200-250 to get one ready to sell. carb kit and cleaner, coils, plug wires, points, condensors. water pump. some of the water pump kits are over $100. most salt water motors need the complete kit due to salt pitting, in the housing.

Re: What are these worth???

Wow, you guys must not get much for motors up where you're at.

A 6hp that starts and runs great is worth a lot more than $175.00 here. I see them going for $300.00 and up, if they start and run great. The Big Twin is probably worth about the same here too.

If you're getting motors to fix and sell, yea, the cheaper you can get them for, the better, because by the time you get done refurbishing the lower unit, and ignition system, you're into it, for about $150.00 or more.

I just refurbished a 1958 JW-14 and replaced the entire ignition system and rebuilt the carb and spent $100.00 and all I had to do to the lower unti was change out the impeller and gear oil. If I would have had to go into the lower unit, then I would have had another $50.00 + into it.

I just picked up a 1962 5.5hp and rebuilt the lower unit on it and probably spent close to $125.00 on it. When I got it, the lower unit was completely shot, so I ended up buying a rebuildable one on Ebay for $80.00 including shipping. Seal kit and impeller kit, was another $60.00.

So, probably the best thing to do is, if you're going to have to go extensively into an outboard to this degree, don't do it, unless you plan on keeping the motor and using it, because you might make about $50.00 for your efforts. Parting the motors out, would probably make you a little more, than fixing them up to sell. However, if you like to do this as a hobby and are only looking to get your money back, then that's a different story. I, myself like tinkering with these oldies.:D

195? Sport Twin would be a 10hp. The 15's were called Fastwins and were built from 1953 - 56. Sport Twin 10's were built from 56 - 63 by Evinrude and 49 - 63 by Johnson under the QD model.
