What auto parts are fine on a boat?

I'm putting my engine back together after removing the starboard head to replace a burnt valve and was wondering what automotive parts are safe for use on a boat. I know there are some that can't interchange like a water pump, but here's what I found interchange numbers for at NAPA:
Exhaust manifold gasket, cylinder head gasket, distributor cap and rotor and plug wires. Going through Volvo would cost me $247.54 for all of those, but using the NAPA interchange parts would cost me $144.45. That's $100 I'd rather spend on other things.

I tried to search for this topic because I'm sure it's been covered before but I didn't find anything.

Thanks for the info.

I don't see any problems with any of the parts on your list, buy them where ever you like

The cylinder head gasket has to be marine rated, unless you have fresh water cooling on the engine.

Since your in Az. You probably won't hit any salt water.
The salt water is why they use a marine grade gasket.
The water pump can be used too. The only difference is the marine one has a stainless plate on the back.
Gotta wonder why it burned a valve???
The 5.7 used in the 80's Volvos was famous for sucking a valve and needing a new head.
It's best to use marine parts.

I'm currently stationed in AZ, but hope to get back to FL some day so I'll be back in the salt. I'll definitely use the Sierra head gasket then. How about the other stuff then? I hate paying more than I need to for a label/brand. If there's truly a difference then I'm all in, but if there's no difference, I don't like wasting money. Thanks guys,

You can use all sierra stuff. I would use OEM bellows and impellers, but thats just me.
