I know that the engine had to have gone in something other than marine, right? I read someone say the Iron duke, then someone else said BS, then I read somewhere that the engine went in postal service trucks??? But I really have no clue and have an ever nagging curiosity to know. Anyone?

Isn't the Merc 140 an inline 4 cyliner GM engine? Probably same motor/block are in older GM compact cars.

Just a hunch.......

I don?t think it?s the iron duke. The displacement is 2.5 but I doubt they are the same engine. Here is a link about the iron duke http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/GM_Iron_Duke_engine As far as I know, no cars came with that engine. I believe it was used in industrial applications (generators, compressors etc.). I also have heard that they came in mail jeeps but according to this article the jeeps did use the iron duke. The best HP they squeezed out of it was like 90hp, much less than the Merc.
If you?re trying to find a used one I would recommend craigslist.

No not looking for a used one, I have one that isn't running correct and would like to use my auto part place more than the ridiculously over priced and arrogant marine parts places in my area. And the auto parts store cant research it unless they know what it went in.

You?re looking just for parts and not a whole engine correct? In that case I would not mess with the auto parts store if their not familiar with it. What are you looking for? The iboats store sells parts and they have fast shipping (I ordered a prop Sunday night and it?s scheduled to arrive tomorrow).

Ayuh,.... Quite Simply,... If your Auto Parts store doesn't sell Marine parts,...
They can't help you,.. Period....

Btw,...
Napa carries a line of Marine parts... Although buying from iboats is a Better Idea...
