I’m new here and not sure where to post this so if I’m the wrong area I’m sorry and mods please relocate.
I have this little mod V hull row boat I’m trying to identify. It has no HIN and one of the reg letters is missing so my state can’t find it in the system so I’m gonna try and just start over and ID the boat year and model. It measures 13ft 8 inches and is 48 inches wide. I’ve done a lot of research and think it’s an old Sears boat or maybe an Aerocraft. Does anyone have an idea what it might be? Thanks.

Thanks GA_Boater, I tried different ways from photobucket to post pix and I tried to upload pix to this site with no luck either. I’ll have to study some to figure this out.

The Photo Tutorial has what you need to upload the pics.

I have no idea what brand of boat you got. Sorry.

I believe I found the hull numbers on the transom but I’m not sure how many digits it’s suppose to be. Hopefully someone here can tell me. The numbers are SC4 285 00

Well, another dead end. After the “285” it looks more like a “C0” which could be the date code of March 2000, which means I’m still four characters short!

I'm betting you're looking at a serial number, and that boat is from the late 60s or early 70s. Probably no HIN stamped into it. Tinnies like that are kinda' "dime-a-dozen."

Check with the state of Alabama on registering a boat with no HIN. They can probably help you get one issued as long as you have some kind of bill of sale.

Welcome aboard.

Thanks southkogs, I have contacted Alabama about it and I keep hitting road blocks as far as meeting requirements. The oct 16 sticker has a control number but she can’t find it in the system, the rest of the reg numbers are missing a letter so she can’t find it in the system. All that’s left for me is to know the year and manufacture and I should be able to get it registered. It’s like a conspiracy against having an old boat. I do have a bill of sale.

I have a question for anyone out there. It has been mentioned numerous time in the past, boats under 10 hp do not have to be registered here in Canada. Do the States have a similar regulation or lack there of? The boat not look like it will have a motor over 9.9 hp .

Does the OP still have to register the boat regardless of motor or size?

Boat registration in the US varies by state. In most states (I believe) if it's powered, it has to be registered. No matter the size or HP, it needs a registration.

OP - I wouldn't be afraid to call that a 1971 Sears. if you just need a year and a manufacturer.

Here in Alabama if it has any kind of mechanical propulsion it has to be registered.

southkogs, I have spent considerable time on google researching old rowboats and it does look most like an old Sears rowboat. I’ve checked the construction patterns including rib design and seat placement as well as other details. A lot of the old rowboats had an up swing gunwale towards the bow, a lot of the newer ones are much flatter. I am leaning towards it being a Sears rowboat.

I have a Sears tinny and it looks the same as mine. I'll cast the third vote for Sears...

I think Sears boats were made by a few different manufacturers (would fit how they did things), but I looked through a few of 'em too and thought yours looked close enough ;)
