What would be the best paint and painting metheod to use on a 14' speed boat also what could I use to fill any scratches and cracks in the surface

thanks

Jeff
Jeff,

Go here to do a little reading on paints.

www.westmarine.com

If the boat will not sit in the water for extended periods, automotive enamel paints will be OK.

Otherwise, I like the one part epoxies from Interlux and Pettit. They are featured at West Marine. They brush out very nicely.

Marinetex is a good product to use for small gouges and scratches.
no matter what you recoat it with- you must ensure the surface is completely stripped- which is where the bulk of the labour goes.Try one of the new chemical strippers- makes the job go much easier-no fumes, doesn't burn skin, and non toxic and doesn't damage the gelcoat.Sure beats sanding
check out www.napierenvironmental.com The original R&D was done at Canoe Cove Marina to come up with a better way of stripping antifouling paint
i used car body filler then sprayed with 2 pack about 18 months ago it still looks fantastic and cleans up a treat after being in the sea just to be on the safe side i keep using car wax on it as well
