The engine i have right now had a stator that i had to replace since it was leaking black goo. I installed another stator i had and the engine turned on like a dream. Two days later it didn't want to start. Only one switchbox was working. When i did some checking i found out the stator was the problem. I changed the stator again and it was giving a strong spark, but then the same thing happened. one side stopped working.

What can cause this ????

Re: What can mess up a stator?

None of the components can take out another with the exception of motors that use multiple switchboxes. If the bias circuit in one goes bad, it can ruin the other over time. The only other possibility is if battery voltage is leaking into the ignition circuit via crossed wires or a corroded ignition switch. But that would take out the switchbox(es). Otherwise Mercs go thru black stators like I go thru underwear. ;)
