What can you tell me about this? EGR?

I have a 2001 Mercruiser 5.7L EFI. On my starboard exhaust manifold, there is a tube that goes over to the intake manifold. I assume it's some sort of EGR? Does this just supply exhaust to the intake all the time? What's the purpose of this?

Yes, it's an exhaust vent tube that is supposed to help with emissions.

Be careful around that tube, it is the hottest part on the engine at over 220+ degrees.
