So i pulled the air filter tonight to find this Holly Performance carb. Is this OEM from Volvo? Also this air filter looks to small for this thing, would there be any benefit to putting a larger automotive style air filter on it?

I do not see a pic of what you say is the air filter, but if you are referring to the metal Flame Arrestor, and you are thinking automotive it may seen odd and small. Do not use an automotive filter, the flame arrestor "system" has been around for a long time and serves a very important purpose. Really no need to try to add in more filtration that is not needed and also can cause a safety issue.

Also, that is definitely a Marine carb, and looks pretty stock to me. Volvo used Holleys on many GM and Ford based engines The linkage also looks stock, not cobbled, so just work with what is there.

I am not sure what that piece is exactly for, the one plumbed into the manifold. Something to do with crankcase venting, also looks pretty stock. You need to get a manual on this engine from Volvo so these questions can be answered.

For now, I would treat is all as necessary as is.
