Product # 3883609, Serial # 4202206574

Just painted the skeg with Grey, Part # 1141575 and that is definitely not it. Is it Blue-Grey, Part # 1141567 or Silver Gray, Part # 3851219?

Re: What color is my DPS-A?

the DPS-A and SX-A paint part number is 3851219

If it isn't Volvo Penta branded, it wont match. There is no aftermarket match for these recent Volvo outdrives that I know of. I made the mistake of ordering aftermarket paint at first too, and it was the wrong color; the light grey I think you used as well. Adding to the confusion is the blue-gray used by OMC and Yamaha, and the light grey of older volvo's...

The correct color is either metallic silver or grey, its listed both ways depending on where you're looking. But, use that part number and you'll be good. Promise :)

How long does it take the VP touch-up primer/paint to cure out? Does/can it ever become as hard as the original finish? After doing my skeg painting "by the book" (or so I thought) I still had some paint peal off on my first outing.

Did you prep the surface before painting? I sanded the original paint smooth wherever it had chips, primed with zinc chromate, and painted with the paint listed above, and mine is hard as OEM. I've not had any peeling or chips with the touch up paint. I think I had it in the water two days after I painted it, and it was hard long before that.

Sanded down to aluminum (some spots had Metalset A4 Aluminum Epoxy brand fill), cleaned with Alumiprep 33, treated with Alodine, applied Volvo brand primer then the Volvo brand paint. Only let "cure" for one day, so maybe that was my problem. Or maybe I should try the zinc chromate primer instead of the Alodine treatment with Volvo primer. It's not a big deal as it is not that large of an area and I am going to have to repaint anyway, I just wanted to get some idea what I may have done wrong.
