What damage done after overheating?

Had a problem with one of those Perko flush valves on the weekend, the outlet pipe from it broke off in the inlet hose going to the seawater pump. What a piece of rubbish.
I was only going for around 2mins but when I smelt the engine I checked the gauge and it was right over at 240, so switched engine off, there was steam coming from her and it was obviously really hot.
Anyway I already machined a piece of aluminium pipe in case it ever went and luckily I had it on board and repaired it, she cooled down immediately.
What damage should I now check for?
Did hear exhaust blowing so maybe flappers are gone?
What checks should I do?

Thanks in advance guys.......

I would do a compression check to see if a head gasket has blown.

Your impeller was toast in the first 20 seconds so it will need replacing. Your exhaust hoses are most likely burnt and separated on the inside. Flappers are melted and somewhere in your Y pipe. If not a gen II your impeller housing is most likely toast too. Thermostat is now not trustworthy either.

There is a lot to damage without any water flow.

Deleted...didn't see that you had an SX drive.

I was looking at those valves as well at one point. Wasn't too excited about how they were made. I was going to plumb the valve to a fitting at the rear of the boat.

Re: What damage done after overheating?

thanks guys for the replies, really helpful as usual.
I have ordered new hose and impeller and am going to start her up
What should I look for and listen for?
When I ran it today with the makeshift hose in there it seemed to sound fine
Could it be I have avoided any major damage?

Hi Bruce, avoid those Perko valves, just may have cost me a few bucks!! Only run for 1 season.

Thanks guys for the help with the hose part number.
I changed the impeller too, but to be honest it looked fine as it was.

Would this be the only damage caused and how do I check?
What noises should I be hearing from the engine?

I wouldn't be starting it up just yet. You need to figure out what your wobbly pulley is before running it.

As far as what it should sound like, it should sound NORMAL.

As far as looks, well, it shouldn't have leaks, and it should look normal. Parts shouldn't fall off. Not exactly sure what you want to know.
