What diameter of prop?

I have a 1974 Merc 650 65hp. What diameter of prop does this motor call for? I would just look on the prop, but I dont have one. I know what pitch I want, I just dont know the diameter. Thanks for your help.

How you be Nathan?<br />The diameter isn't as important as the pitch. You can measure from the center of your prop shaft and see how large a diameter you can spin without hitting the trim tab or cav plate. The prop I'm running is a 10-1/4" dia. big eared chopper. I had to remove my trim tab so I could swing it, so that's always an option. I didn't tell ya what ya asked but maybe this'll help.<br /><br />g'luck & c/6<br /><br />Hooty

I just needed a starting point, I dont want to buy a 12" diameter prop off the internet, and it be too big and hit my lower unit when I try to put it on.<br /><br />So you think that a 10 1/4 will work? If that will fit, then that is what I will buy.

No, I didn't say that a 10-1/4" would fit. I said you should measure and see what will fit. Measure from the center of your prop shaft out and see how big you can go without hitting anything. That'll be the radius. Multiply times two to get the diameter.'kay? <br /><br />c/6<br /><br />Hooty

Do you by chance know what comes from the factory on these motors?<br /><br />I will measure it in the morning.<br /><br />One more thing, do you know if anyone makes a SS prop that small for this motor? Would like one of those Ballistic Props for it. Those look really cool.<br /><br />Will be down by your house next week, lets go fishing!!! Shoot me an email if you are able.

Hi, i just installed a 12 1/4 inch diameter prop on my '75 650 yesterday. Plenty of clearance
