What did i doo wrong

Hi to everyone. I have a problem, I got my boat and motor all ready for the winter sleep,after i had taken the batery out i realized motor was to close to the ground could not crank front of boat up.I reconected a batery to the two large cables with booster cables to rais leg up off the ground in dooing this a smal ground between the leg and cowling burnt up, what did i doo wrong?should i have connected all the wires and not just the two main large cables?doo you think i may have damaged other electrical? Trim and tilt worked ok after this happened. Please advise what might have happened. Thanks in advance. J,C,

Are you certain it burned up then? Could it be that it was corroded like all external ground straps get and you may of bumped it without knowing while winterizing? Replace the strap and if all else checks out ok, don't worry about it. You are certain the polarity was correct and the pos connection wasn't accidentally grounded?

Hi Angus63 Thanks for the reply,yes i had the polarity black on black red on red,The ground strap burnt before my eyes it got red and all that was left was a little puff of smoke. Booster cable did arc whene i connected so i gues a short must have ocured after i winterized.hope my elecrical is not damaged. J,C.
