I pulled my pivot pin out the other day on my 89 85hp force and I thought I put it back in right, but when I put the LU back on it is locked up in nuetral forward and reverse, does this mean that the pivot is not back on right?

Oi.

Thats a bummer. It's has to be dropped and taken apart to get the pin back in..
I read in a previous post that someone put a dab of silicone or sealant over the pivot pin screw.. Looks like an idea many should follow.

Re: What do I do?

Thanks im definitely going to put some silicone over that screw when I get this figured out and put back together. Ive already dropped the LU twice and it doesnt seem to be in right. It looks like the shift rod is aligned with the shift pivot screw hole when I put the screw back in?? Is there any way to tell if its back in right before putting the whole LU back on?? Its hard to drop and put back on with no help. Thanks to all that can help.

Re: What do I do?

before you put in your lower unit. Grab the shift rod and pull on it, Spin the drive shaft by hand and note the rotation of the prop shaft. Push in the shift rod and spin the drive shaft again. The prop shaft should now spin the opposite ways. If you get this result it's in correctly.
