so i bought this boat from my dad a couple of years ago and took it out twice. i found out i am not really the boating type plus the nearest lake is an hour away and i am not really comfortable with the river.

so i turn to the experts and ask you guys what do i have and do you have a clue what it is worth. he told me it is a 1957 owens and the motor i think is a 1963 johnson 40 hp. the boat is in good structural shap and the motor ran great when i parked it the winter before last but it has been sitting for 2 years. i just dont have a clue about boats as i am a car guy. here are some pics can ya help me out

Real neat boat. I wouldn't think it would be worth more than $750 in my area though.

Not a lot. There are a few people who like those 50s boats, but not a lot. If the boat is absolutely sound and the engine is good, you might get $600-700 for it. Now, if you had an engine from the same year, especially if it was the engine featured in the print ads for the boat, you could add a couple hundred dollars to the price.

Trouble is that Owens boats featured Scott-Atwater outboards. There should be a Scott-Atwater 40 hp on the back of that. It's been replaced by that later model OMC outboard.

Little things matter with this stuff. For example, I sold a 1958 Johnson 35 hp RDS-20 off the back of my boat to a guy who had a 1958 boat of some kind. The ad for that year's boat had the same motor I owned on it. I got $900 for the outboard so he could stick it on his boat. He caught me at the lake I was fishing on, and made me the offer. We drove to the bank nearby, and he cashed a check and handed the cash to me. We took the outboard off my boat and put it in the trunk of his Mercedes. I'm sure he completely restored that outboard, which ran perfectly, and drives around on weekends at the lake he has a big house on.

Little stuff matters.

Of course it has another motor on it. Would anyone expect a Scott to last long enough to get old?

Cool looking boat!

Man, that boat has serious attitude...

If you don't get any bites on the boat you can probably unload the motor pretty quicly on ebay. I have no idea what its worth but the guys buying and selling vintage outboards on ebay reportedly get the highest prices for them.

A gift from your Dad certainly makes it a keeper. For 40 years I have regretted selling the motor Grandpa gave me for a measly 100 bucks.
