What do you call this trailer?

It extends out for long shallow launches. It doubles in length and hinges over the axle. I have never seen one before and it came with the boat. Just wondering if someone can tell me about it. Its currently not working right and im wondering if its worth the work or just worth her weight at the scrap yard.

thanks

Scrap steel is currently around $220 per ton jump on it before it goes down....

There's a reason you have never seen one of those trailers, get rid of it

Re: What do you call this trailer?

There are a lot of tilt trailers around but I've never seen one with that large of boat on it. That one looks home made and might come in real handy for low water launching. Do you think you can get it working safely? I've seen all sorts of contraptions on the ramps. Some are brilliant and some are not. Regardless, just because it doesn't look and work normal doesn't make it a bad trailer as long as it can be used safely.

I think the back wheels are there for backing up into there driveway, so the trailer doesn't hit the ground and maybe brake out the tail lights and save the out drive.

You'd be able to pick a boat up off the lawn with that trailer. It's pretty neat.

What's the malfunction. It does look home made. The cheap EZloader trailers that tilt usually don't have that much metal in them.

John, that's what I was thinking. I sure could have used a trailer like that last season. I had my Chevy Tahoe in all the way a couple of times. Heck that's one of the reasons I bought my new F350 4x4.

Re: What do you call this trailer?

I can tell it was built for low-tide/shallow water launches. The whole thing extends out 15 feet. the the small wheels on the back are there for when you extend it out. The weight sits on those wheels and when the boat is on the bunks and in that cage you strap it down and then winch the entire contraption back up onto the trailer.

the whole pully/cable system is rusted, everything is rusted, im probably just going to try and find a cheap one on craigslist and get rid of this one.

I would not scrap or get rid of it just over some surface rust.
Pretty ingenius setup really.
If your going to get rid of the trailer, you might offer it for sale at some of the classic boat websites.
Someone with a boat that originally came on that trailer might drool over having it.

Post more pictures of it fully extended and not and the mechanism details.
