Went with the upgrade vinyl. it's textured so no slip and light color so it wont get hot from the sun. so far it's been great.

I have carpet in mine, What are the advantages to vinyl? I am going to be re-doing my deck when I replace the furniture next year, and I was thinking I was just going to fiberglass and Gel-Coat it, and put in snap-on carpet for easy clean up and drainage.

The advantages of Vinyl are that it lasts a very long time. Does not rot, tear, stain much. Mine is a light color but does get a bit hot in the Florida sun. Not a big deal but I think hotter than carpet would. The Vinyl is from 1999 and still looks great.

I usually have flip-flops on so don't feel the vinyl if its hot. Beige color also helps keep the heat down. We have a small bucket on a rope we drop overboard to splash water over the deck if we are sitting still in full sun.

I have carpet but wish I had vinyl. I would just put down some rubber backed area carpets. The carpet is hard to keep clean and I think the vinyl would help preserve the deck by keeping moisture away.
I'm gonna put some runners on my carpet.

Re: What do you have?

I jusy got my boat this year and ordered it with the vinyl. I am going to have some snap in carpet fabricated next year but I love the fact that when I wash it down the water just rolls all the way to the back, under the seats, and off the back end. It also dries quickly. I will use the snap in carpet just for comfort. I have gray vinyl which gets a little warm, but not too bad. The only down side is that it tends to collect dirt. Its easy to srub out, but it can look a little dingy.

My sons have grey carpet in their boat and I was surprised how hot it gets.
I know the vinyl has to have non slip quality to it, but it does have some deep areas to collect dirt.
