Just got my motor back today. mechanic asked if the motor had been sitting for a while.... LOL.... yeh, 13 years!

He said that it sounds like my carbs need some cleaner run thru them. In his opinion, they will be fine once some is run thru. He also said that it needs run...LOL... ya think?

WHat do you add to clean your carbs?

Run a 2 cycle motor for a short time with plugged up carbs and you'll need a lot more than "clean"

Why Do people think running cleaners will solve everything?
What really bugs me IS. I pulled the carbs apart and cleaned them.
If you are going to pull the carb/s apart Rebuild them/ Gaskets and such

two strokes get both fuel and lubrication from their fuel supply, if the carbs are acting up, pull them disassemble them clean them up very well, and reassemble them. (while i may get flamed for this, sometimes you can get away without having to "buy" a rebuild kit....all depends on how they seal/perform when you put em back together.) A carb rebuild kit is extra insurance that you won't be taking them apart again after you reinstall them and what have you due to a leak, or sunken cork float. I would recommend a new mechanic though, this one is going to cost you money, as running two stroke lean is like running car without oil. Also most carb cleaners are also oil thinners....not a real good idea. The comment that E10 will function as a carb cleaner is at least partially valid, it also will serve as a gasket, fuel line, diaphram solvent and hardener as most older engines were not equipped with alcohol stable rubber components. unfortunately with the current regulations most of us have no choice but to run E10 now.

Sea Foam at the recommended maintenance mixture helps to extend the time between 'proper' carb cleaning.

There is no 'magic' chemical that will properly clean a carb when mixed with the fuel. Air passages accumulate mineral deposits from splashed fuel, dirt from the air, and restrict proper fuel metering. NO fuel additive will clean this out.

Relying on a chemical to properly clean a carb is virtually guarenteed to end badly, as in causing a far more serious problem that could have been prevented by proper carb maintenance/cleaning.

Ditto the comment 'Replace your mechanic".

I use marine stabil with every fill up and sea-foam once a year.
