I’m looking for something that I can drive for 250K miles and do all my own repairs. The first thing I noticed about this truck was how much room there was under the hood. There was plenty of arm room. It has two features that I don’t really need though. One, the rear view mirror turns into a backup camera and two; there is a 120 V electrical outlet in the bed. If that’s a generator that is powered by the trucks engine if must not be very efficient. Does anyone have experience with the Tacoma? How do you like it? The prices on these things don’t vary much I’ve noticed
Thanks for the help

My honest thoughts are the rear view camera is a cool novelty that I see on a lot of newer vehicles. As for 250k good luck with that unless you drive a lot. It would take us 62.5 years to that many miles on our truck at 4k a year and even at 12k a year you are talking 20.8 years of owning the same truck. I just bought a second truck a year older and what I can say is I hated the no haggle dealerships. They'd overprice and there was no discussion, no add ons, nothing. I'm used to hardcore negotiation, no holds barred, and getting a deal that most wouldn't have the stomach to try and get and the one price dealers just aren't the place for that.
I live in MN with the 6th highest cost of living in the country and maybe the highest priced cars outside of Hawaii. I got to the point of getting so frustrated with the local dealers pricing so high, I shopped and bought in one of the most depressed states being Ohio. Vehicles are so much cheaper there, there should be an exchange rate at the border. My truck was 40% less money than the same thing here in MN. A nationwide search on Cars.com is educating as to how state's economies are doing. Michigan was low priced and Indiana as well.

That is just about the top of the line tacoma........ TRD is excellent but only if you need the locker in the rear

That is really a great package you have picked. I have owned a few and they are great. I drive a 4runner now and I love it.

Son in law Lance drives one like that, different color. He loves it. I think it is a '09. His last one, must have been an '04, had over 250K on it. Needless to say he loves it.

My last Toyota pickup was at 240K when I sold it. The only problems I had were 2 head jobs but both my fault because of breaking off a spark plug and overheating.

The outlet in the bed is likely connected to an inverter mounted somewhere.

Carmax shows the car unavailable did you or someone else buy it?

Looks like this one sold and hope it was you who picked it up. You really get a decent deal with CarMax since they typically offer top of the line models a few years old. It's all about you get what you see for the price listed. I picked up our Nissan Altima 3.5 Coupe and it was loaded at a realistic price compared to what was available on the market. Pick your price point and stick to it!!!

Undoubtedly an inverter.

I've got 4 years and 55K on my 2007 Tacoma. No problems, good tow vehicle. The outlet in the bed is cool, but I've never used it. It only has 100 watts with the engine off and 400 with it running.

The 110v outlet runs 400watts in 'Park' and 100watts while driving. It is run by an inverter, which works good for keeping the portable DVD player and small electronics running/charged.

I've got a 2007 Toyota Tacoma TRD double-cab 4x4 with 95K miles. I run upgraded front disc, TRD cold air intake and other than the transmission I run only synthetic fluids. I pull my 25' Outback Camper (dry weight of 4800#, GVWR of 6,200#) w/o too many issues. I expect well over 200K out of this truck. I have replaced the u-joints and brakes only.

The wife has a 1999 Toyota 4Runner Limited 4x4 with 160K on the clock. She typically tows the boat in the summer and other than a few water pumps, 100K service, new CV boots, brakes and new struts/shocks last month, this thing has given us zero issues. It still runs excellent and as far as 4 wheel drives go, it has a rear locker and out wheels any of my previous CJ's and TJ's (4 total)!

So, I'd buy another Toyota truck again without any hesitation...of course now the wife wants a newer Sequoia ($$$$)!
