hi all i have a 89 bayliner capri with a 89 force 50hp on it. the last time i had it out was a weel ago and at the end of my playing it seened to run a little slower then it was like it was low on power. now let me say it has 128 130 +- and now i just had it out to day and i put new plugs in and whent out and it starts right up and runs great but when i punch it it revs to 4300 rpm and then starts to break up and drop in rpms so i remover the engine lid and saw the top spark plug boot looked toasty so me not thinking touched it and got zapped. so back at the dock i put a spare coil in it just on the side bc the plug wire was to small and i looked at the new plugs and the top one had oil on it so i cleaned them up and whent back out and still no w.o.t so i pulled the top plug agen and there was oil on it agen . now i think the cdi is no good or coil no good but i got zapped so it must be firing right? or did the short run ruin the new plug. thank

I think you got a problem with the top plug ..probably corrosion in the connection to the plug cap ...replace the wire and the plug cap and try again

Start with the basics. Those #s 128/130 compression??? Get inline spark testers. The kind you can use while running.Go for a ride and see if the fire goes away under load.
Takes a lot to ruin the plugs.Fire on both plugs.

Pull the fuel pump and check the diaphram.
Water in the fuel?

Spare coil?? Spare from what?? Needs to be a Force part.

Have CD or points?

yes those #'s are copression and the coil is from a force 85hp and i know its firing on both because the engine runs fine on just the top cyl and then fine on the lower cyl by its self i do know im not mixing the oil and gas right i just wing it. but the boat shops near me all say the pug is bad i dont know any more. lol

A pic of the motors coils will help.
Check the fuel pump.
Oil/gas?? 1 pint to 6 gal.
Replace the plug and see what it does.

well I think that is normal to see some oil in the plugs, two stroke motors burn oil, so you will never see a dry plug , like in the four stroke or cars, I think that your lower carburetor is running lean, thats way you don't see any oil on the plug, and that could be the reason of lack of power specially at high rpm..and very dangerous because it can damage the piston do to much friction and no lubrication wish eventually also lower the motor speed , did you try to swap the coils and the plugs .....this a good way to know if the problem goes to the other cylinder

Never wing it. Go to walmart if you can. Go to marine section and look for a tall plastic bottle with some numbers on it. This will help you to get mix right. You need to be running a 50:1 ratio with 87 octane unleaded. Winging it spells major problems with your motor. If nothing else then follow
jerry's advice to the numbers.

hi all thanks for the help but the engine only has one carb. i remover the carb today and it looks in good order inside. is there a way to put it under a load out of the water to see if it will brake up and will a cdi just stop or give me a on and off problem. thanks

Re: what do you thinks up with my engine

Lets back up here fellas, @Dan.. what plug are you running? Surface gap or regular bent electrode? Your ignition year should be running the surface gap.

Adjust the top screw on your single carb all the way in till lightly seated, then back it out one full turn, or at the most 1 1/8-1 1/4 until it seems to run well. I have melted the upper piston in this very motor because the carb was running lean.

A little heavy on the oil is better than too little, However...... MEASURE MEASURE MEASURE, bentle and Jerry are right about this, it's good advice.

fucawi is also right on the money, I had issues with my wires having corrosion/rust on the coil inside the plug boot. Inspect, clean, replace the plugs, check the timing, test.

Hope that helps

Re: what do you thinks up with my engine

ok thay are surface gap and both plugs have oil on them but top one has a little more. i think im just spining my wheels it might be nothing but the gas mix. but i now have the boat out of the water for some floor fixing and so now i cant just hop in it and try it but like i was saying i pulled lower plug and it starts and runs and revs great i would think it would brake up on the one cyl im having or thinking im having a problem on. i may just get used cdi and put it in. i did do a fix on the wires 2 years ago so maybe its just time and the ground to the coils is realy bad. thanks to all agen

Re: what do you thinks up with my engine

Loosing spark at wot does happen. Even weak spark can happen. The best way to find this out is to have spark testers on each cylinder. Then at wot you can observe spark and fix if needed. I think we have all prob. had a good zap from our outboards or at least I have and its not the best way to find out if your getting spark. Sure way but not the best lolololol. Now for the wet plug I would say you need carb adjustment or fuel recirculation may be faulty. If you don't already have one then a force manual for your motor would be a good investment. I use the clymer manual and I would be blind without it.

Is there any benefit with using a higher octane fuel? I've been using 93 and wouldn't mind saving a few bucks if there isn't really any added value.
