Re: What does a Stator and Regulator do?
The stator has two jobs. It generates electricity for the ignition system, and charging current to charge the battery. The circuits are separate from each other. The Voltage Regulator limits the voltage to 14.something volts to keep from overcharging.

Failures usually occur at the Voltage Regulator and the vast majority of the time they fail due to crossed, loose, or corroded battery connections. Johnnyrude stators rarely fail, but it happens. (Merc stators have a dismal track record compared to Johnnyrude's.)
