Hi all. I have a 1990 Evinrude XP150 and would like to know what earns that motor the XP designation over a regular 150 or below a 175. I know my motor has the larger charging system like the 175 and larger jets than a regular 150. I am mainly curious about what is different on this motor. Thanks in advance for any input and thanks for a GREAT SITE!

I believe a 150 gt is a loop charged motor.Higher comprssion ratio as well.As opposed to crossflow. These differences lie in the method in which air enters cylinders and scavenges exhaust gases.I believe most loopers because of the dynamics of the design incorporate higher compression ratios and able to run higher rpms. They may run a bit hotter than their counterparts.

There are crossflow and looper XP/GT motors. It is basically a styling desigination (hood louvers, decals, etc.). Some have slightly different heads. The head changes, if any, were swirl pattern or pocket depth changes.

Good luck!
