What possible problems would there be if an impellar was bad, My motor is running badly. When I was out last I found that if pulled the choke out a bit it did improve how it ran but it still needed to be primed to run. Even still it stalled and acted up alot. I am trying to get to the botom of this issue. The water stream coming out isn't steady and wondered if that would cause some of these issues.

The motor is a 1987 johnson 15 , j15rcud early model.

A worn impeller won't directly affect how an engine runs, just whether or not you'll need to be towed in. If an engine is overheating to the point that it's affecting performance there's likely already engine damage.

As far as your engine needing to be primed to keep running, it's obviously running lean for some reason.... carbs, fuel system leak, maybe fuel pump, ....

You have a fuel problem. The water pump has nothing to do with that.

HOWEVER, you asked what possible problems a worn impeller might cause. Nothing really serious---just a totally burnt-up motor. And THAT will take care of THAT. No more problems.

if you are unsure of the water pump, replace it....and the t stat. sounds more like a carb issue, but the pump is a basic "replace it if youre unsure" part.

I get a chuckle every time I read posts like this. :D:D

Yea, lummer, I think you'll need to replace your impeller and your thermostat. As far as your running issue, it sounds like you have a fuel delivery issue. You can test your fuel pump, by removing the fuel line from the carburetor and puting in in a jar. Once you start the motor, then it should pump fuel into the jar. If it seems like it's not pumping fuel very good, then I would replace it.
