What gauges do you recommend?

Gauges

I have a 1990 Force 90hp outboard, and I feel like the boat is lacking some gauges. What gauges can I add, and should be looking for?

The instrument panel has fuel, speed, and several blank spaces. I'd really like to see tach, individual cylinder temps, maybe water pressure, trim etc? Is any of this possible to add on without spending a fortune? What brand gauges would you use?

Thanks.

I've ordered from Sporqster: tach, voltmeter, water pressure and head temp . All very inexpensive (total of $93 including shipping). These should give me most of the info i need.

1 28-1401 Tachometer 8000 Rpm Marine 4-10-12-20 Pole 23.99
1 28-1403 Temperature Gauge Cylinder Head 22.99
1 28-1405 Water Pressure Gauge 0-30 Psi 16.99
1 28-1564 10-18 Vdc Voltmeter 19.99

All match except for the voltmeter, they didn't have the same brand.

QuadManiac -

This is an old thread, but I'm trying to do my homework before I start asking repeat questions. Anyway, I have a 1990 Force 90hp and was trying to decide if I should add a water pressure or temperature gauge since the engine only has a single threaded fitting. It appears that you used both, how did you manage to do this?

Thanks

Re: What gauges do you recommend?

The temperature gauge measures HEAD temp. It comes with a temp sensor that mounts under a head bolt.

Yes, thanks. I need to learn to pay attention to the words I read. :)
As a follow-up question, what is a normal (vs. overheat) temperature of the head while running? Also, do you know if the overheat buzzer on the outboard measures head or water temperature, and at what temp should that go off?

thanks

One of the gauges is measuring head temperature, and the other water pressure. I purchased the gauges recommended above, and got them all hooked up. There are factory specs on the temps, I believe our motor opens the thermostat at 135 degrees F so it's it's much warmer than that, I'd have some concern.

Re: What gauges do you recommend?

...speaking of gauges, does anyone know if the Force L-drives were more apt to come with a full set of gauges rather than the outboards which seemed to have a minimum? Even though, to my understanding, the upper powerheads were pretty much the same?
Like you Zimmer I have the speedo and fuel only....no tach or anything else, at least not yet.

As far as I can tell from looking, the buzzer temp switch is mounted in the head, so I will assume it's measuring the same thing the new temp gauge is (head temp).

Zimmer, I haven't mounted mine yet, and was wondering how your's ended up looking. Have any pictures you could post, perhaps?

Thanks
