what glue would you use?

without getting into details , i want to glue a piece of aluminum to a hdpe plastic boat hull, this piece of aluminum will be completely submerged at all times . what would be the best(strongest and waterproof) glue for this situation?

I don't think anything will stick aluminum to HDPE very well. Maybe contact cement if you have enough surface area.

Glue and bolt maybe, but glue alone probably won't hold. A commercial brand polyurethane is probably the strongest for underwater use - same as a windscreen glue.<br /><br />Aldo

locknut, if your hull if fiberglass/gelcoat I would use #1 Plexus. #2 3M 5200. #3 Sikaflex292. <br />Chief ;)

I would ask - how big of a piece of aluminum ? Thats a tough combination to mechanically fasten using only an adhesive. Not much will stick to HDPE.

You might want to contact 3M and ask about the VHB (very high bond) tape series. It is the ultimate in double sided tapes and is used commonly as mechanical fastening in place of rivets, screws etc in the transportation industry. Not sure about being water proof. Give them a call and they may be able to help, afterall they are the adhesive experts.
