I disassembled this hub because the tire was making a groaning noise. This is what I found. Im guessing the spindle is damaged and needs work. What is the next step? Do I have to buy a new axle? I have a big trip planned thursday. Thanks for the help

I am not seeing what is damaged either.
Looks like there has been some water in the hub at some point allowing rust to start.
Is the rear seal surface worn where that narrow band is a different color?
If that is it, you can get a super thin sleeve that is made to "restore" the seal lip sealing surface for a few $$.
Speedi-Sleeve I think it is called.

Looks fine. Even the seal surface doesn't look unusable. Just make sure to really pack the new bearings well, looks like there was void area and some water got in.

Reaffirming the others, all looks good. What you are seeing in the 1st picture are wear marks from the seal. I see that all the time at work with washdown electric motors.

Polish with a bit of emory cloth, fresh bearings and slap in new seals. Should be fine.
