I'm looking at buying a 1994 sea ray 220 overnighter signature select w/ trailer,600 hrs, 5.7v8 bimini top and camper top. He is asking $16000.

The NADA site will give you a ballpark price. I think that price is high for a 15 year old boat. I bought a '98 21' SeaSwirl (150HP Johnny + Trailer) in Dec 06 for $8200. That boat should cost a bit more, but the economy is pretty bad right now. You might offer $11K and go from there.

I don't have a lot of knowledge on the larger boats but what Chris said is pretty much what I was going to say. I think the price needs to be closer to $10k and even then it should be in excellent condition.

For this area, I think 16k would be significantly overpriced even assuming everthing is in excellent condition.

The four primary drivers with boat price are condition, location, demand for that particular type of boat in the area, and the economy. Condition and location are self explanatory.

By demand for a particular type of boat in the area, I'll give an example. On the Gulf Coast, center console fishing boats are commonplace and because there is stron local demand, the prices reflect that. Here in the midwest, this type of boat is far less common as is the demand for such a boat, so the price tends to be lower because there are fewer buyers.

In general, boats are not selling well due to the economic downturn and prices have, in general, declined because there is a large supply of used boats and fewer people willing/able to part with the cash to buy them. In this market, my advice would be to start low and negotiate.

I have a 93 270 Weekender with trailer that I am going to be selling with in the next year. I am thinking about asking 14k for it so I would say it is over priced at 16k.
