I used Thompson's water sealer, worked great for about 3 months. Is there something more permanent, I dont mind doing it once a year but this stuff seems to evaporate faster water.

I'm not looking for a paint type epoxy, just maybe a home coction of oils that would do the job. I was thinking maybe a mixture of diesel oil and hydraulic oil but that's a no-no with treehuggers

I think that Thomson Water seal is the biggest scam on the market, it does not work for long.

I like Teak wood oil but its expensive, probably the cheapest longest lasting will be boiled Linseed oil...it was good enough for grandpa.

Best wood protector I have ever used is linseed oil. Apply a good heavy coat on dry wood. It can rain on it then for years and the wood wont rot.

I have used Penofin finishes on many a deck, and still use it on mine. I happen to be kinda lazy, so I use a deck sprayer or a small airless to apply it. Flammable until it dries, but works great . It has a nice tone, and once a year the decks get a coating. My decking happens to be cypress, and turns out nice.

I , too think the Thompsons is not very good.

Do thompsons per the instructions including the water test after application then let it dry and weather for 3 weeks and re apply thompsons and you should be set ! I did this 3 years ago and just did my first reapplication last weekend .

I'm pretty sure I used Thomson's according to the directions. looked awsome and the water beaded on it for weeks.

I found a place that had some cwf cleaner so I got them to order the cwf uv5 sealer and will try that.

I think linseed oil is next if this doesnt work

Ok this is the way I do it, 1.Porter deck cleaner(garden sprayer) check directions 2.pressure wash 3.CWF clear or cedar tone (at least 2 coats) the more coats you put on the richer it looks. You will not be disappointed,it is not easy or fast but it will last.
