Port side is left side, starboard - is right side.
Front is bow, rear is stern.

Rubrail is a molding all around your boat's hull (rubber or aluminium).

Kev-a rubrail is the rubber that goes completely around the side of the boat...about 1 1/2" wide and sticks out about the same...an easy way to remember port and starboard=port side(left) has red light and both have the least amount of letters.....starboard(right) has green nav light and have greater amount of letters..that is left/port/red-least letters..........right/starboard/green-most letters

Ive heard Starboard comes from steering board and boats docked with the left side to Port because the steering board was on the right side. Also, port wine is red.

A good reason to use Port and Starboard is that no matter what direction you are looking at a boat from , the Starboard side and port side are always the same.
Saves confusion.
