Re: What is a stator and what does it do?
If your engine has points condensors and coils, you should not have a stator on your engine.

The stator is designed to supply AC current which is then regulated to DC current and in turn used to supply spark to the cyl's.

We get a stronger spark with this design.

The stator is also in charge of supplying current to charge the battery.

TMD
