Sloopy,<br /><br />In a nutshell, they're going after small engines.<br /><br />Apparently, it has been determined that small engines (those not subject to any emmisions controls) are responsible for 17% of the pollutants in a given area. How they figured that out is beyond me.<br /><br />I do not necessarily disagree with their theory. Automobiles are about as clean as they can get. In some cases the exhaust is cleaner than the intake air.<br /><br />Here in Phoenix, "the brown cloud" is always over the airport. However, the airport is a huge "cash cow" for the City of Phoenix. It's like the 800 pound Gorilla in the room that no one wants to talk about.<br /><br />One 737 on take off, emits more pollutants than 1000 cars driving 1000 miles. There are over 300 take offs in Phoenix/day. It's the fifth busiest airport in the world.<br /><br />Our environmental laws are misguided in many cases. They are many times "social engineering".
