What is Involved in Re-doing the Interior yourself??

I have a 1983 Bayliner Capri (1950 type) that is missing the whole floor. It has aluminum plates covering the gaps, so you are able to walk inside the boat. It is also missing the upolstery. This is my first dedicated boat to refurbish, and I would like to restore it to its original condition (same carpet, same upolstery style, etc.) Does anyone have any tips on redoing an interior, or does someone have a picture of the same boat in good condition?? I was also wondering if someone knew a site that sold Bayliner upolstery patterns, as well as accents (teak wood, etc.) Also, I would like to know what is required in order to redo a floor. Please help me out!!

I think I would start by locating my closest bayliner dealer and seeing what they can offer.......

If you want to restore the interior to the original and you have to redo the floor, make sure you have a sound engine and transom first. Unless you have the correct sewing machine and can do the work yourself, from what I've read here, your about to spend some serious bucks. Just a thought!

Have you thought about a staple gun, some monel staples for about $12 a pack and some material and using your own design for the interior. It won't be as neatly done as the factory design, but I did an inboard outboard once and it was respectable when I finished.

Capri,

Your interior sounds gone. By what you describe you are in for major work and expense. Can it be done? Yes anything can be done if you invest enough time, money and research. I have the same Bayliner boat, same engine and same year in good origional condition. I will take some photos and post them so you can get a idea of the layout of the interior. In your "Is it worth fixing thread", you never said if your engine, drive and transom were in good condition. You really need to get that question answered first. There's a Volvo Penta group here at I boats that can help you with that.

Good Luck

If that floor is gone, it probably rotted away. If this is the case, you might want to check the foam core as well, it is likely soaked. A soaked core can add 500 or more pounds of weight to the boat.

and if the floor was gone the transom wont be far behind, check that out thoroughally. The pre made seats are much cheaper than getting old ones upholstered.
