Hopefully this will be my last question on this motor. When I got the motor, the transom clamp was not attached to the motor. As I was re-installing the clamp assembly, this spring fell out from somewhere. Any idea what it is and where it goes? It is painted blue so it must be an external part.

This is only a guess, it might be the spring at the back of the starter assembly for the part called the "bail".

That spring would be part #306265.
It keeps the tension on the arm(#303863) that releases the lock on the swivel bracket(#377532)

Just read all of this and that was going to be my assessment. The spring for the lock/unlock to tilt.

rolmops gets the gold star, that is what it is. It's main function is to keep the lock/release lever from vibrating and making a bunch of noise.
