What is it?

Just a random question... on my 1978 OMC 2.5L there's a bell-shaped thing with a clear glass window that says "if you see gas in here..." then do something, I can;'t remember what. It's hooked to the bottom of the gas pump. What is this thing?

It's a fuel bowl that would catch any gas leaking from a bad fuel pump diaphram. You don't want to see gas in there. If you do "replace the fuel pump".

That's one of those things you should check before every outing. If that bowl gets full without your noticing it, it could get dangerous.
