What is it ?

Hello I'm praying one of you could help me out. I went to this auction the other day and bought a couple of old outboards. I have no clue what this one little engine is. It has no name on it anywhere. The only information on it is as follows:
J350 1106B
343496
60 27003 R

Thats the way its written on the engine.

I would like to know what it is so I can find out what kind of mix to use.

Thank you very much for your time and consideration concerning this problem. Sincerely, Matt in Ohio

Re: What is it ?

It looks on the same lines as the Nassau 5 or even a Clinton, hard to tell , they all look the same without the cover.

It is a Clinton. I have heard all kinds of oil mix stories. I can tell you this: That engine was designed as a Clinton Chainsaw. As a chainsaw, it ran on 16:1. It runs hotter as an outboard than it did as a chainsaw. So, you decide.

I used to work for a Clinton chainsaw dealer.

Re: What is it ?

I do know that 50:1 will cook that poor engine  DO NOT DO IT

Most of the older outboards ran 24:1 and yes F R suggested 16:1 which is better for a motor that age.

I'll bet the folks over at antique outboards will know exactly ;)

Re: What is it ?

I fired it up tonight with a 24:1 mix, and man that little thing will really get it !
I was impressed for a old 1 cylinder. I had to clean the carb out a bit, and then it started right up. I will post some video links of it running when I get them on my computer and uploaded.
Thanks , Matt

Re: What is it ?

Just wanted to say Thanks for the Clinton guess. That helped me find out exactly what it is. A 1970 3.5 HP Clinton.
Here is the video of its first run in who knows how long.

I'm going to work on it some more tommorow and try to get it to hold a idle.
I also need to fix the pull start. Heck I might try to put a electric start mod on it. I don't know we will see. I was really surprised by how good it ran.
Thanks again, Matt in Ohio
