What is it?

Hello first Time posting but have been reading to fix certain issue.

I purchased a 85 astroglass bass boat with a 85 merc 115 inline 6. I purchased it not running. I have replaced the stator, trigger, rectifier and both switch boxes.

have the boat finally running good had to adjust timing and replace the end cap gasket as well.

To my question. The dash has a red light on it the lights up once in awhile. I first thought it was a over heat warning. And I basically thought I needed to replace impeller. But today I noticed on the motor near the transom a microswitch that has a metal leveler with a wheel on it. That when i push the leveler in the light on the dash lights up. Is this some type of trim warning light?
or a hole shot light? Cannot be tilt as the switch needs the motor trimmed down to activate the light? So my question is what is this? What is in t for? Sorry this is not my first or second boat. Rebuilt a lower unit on a 60 evinrude last year. Just no idea what this is for so I'm interested.

Thank you

Maybe it was a indicator to let the operator know when the engine was trimmed down for a hole shot take off like you stated. Easier to see the light come on then turning around to see where the tilt of the engine is. Just a thought, not an answer...

Thank you. I kinda thought it was not factory. Looks like a speaker wire running from it to the dash. There is a analog needle battery meter on the dash as well.

maybe orginal owner added the PO. I purchased it from didnt know much about boats. He told me the boat took on some water but the auto bilge pump would keep it dry. And he told me the drain plug was in front. Lol the front live well had a broken water line so he was pluging the fill inlet to the live well. He bought it working April of 2020 i bought it none running June 10th.

Okay...buyer beware, any time you get that statement, "I bought this from someone else and don't know much about it"! That actually translates into, it has problems and I want it gone. I would certainly examine that boat and engine very carefully. I am guessing there is rot and so many more issues with it since he stated it takes on water. If you got it at a very good price, then repairing everything is, or could be, worth it. But you will have things to repair for certain. JMHO

With that stated, you came to the best place to get help, assistance and answers. So post a picture or three of your new-to-you boat and let us see what you are dealing with. We love pictures on these forums...

The boats in good shape floors are all solid and I'm a bigger guy so first thing I check is the floor. I can fix engines but I stay away from wood work unless no way around it. Lol had the boat out now 6 times no water when I pull drain plug.

the only issue I see on the boat is the fiberglass is very dull. Tried a scratch and swirl remover but that didn't work. Used a buffing wheel and still dull. I paid $1750 for it. Think I got a good deal.

Figured the trolling motor the electronics and the three new batteries are worth close to that.
