If I could just ask a dumb question in trying to remove my upper while in nuetral. Is nuetral thspot between forward and reverse or is it when I pull the lever in towards the boat as if I wanted to get more rpms without turning prop

Re: what is nuetral

If you have a one-lever remote, it is in neutral in the middle position, most often held in place with a click.

When you move the lever forward it first engages gear, then add throttle. Same procedures when moving it to reverse.

If you disengage the gear when in neutral (push/pull button on lever), the extract same thing happens, only the gearcable is not connected to the lever (in effect the gear stays in neutral). Thus allowing to add throttle without engaging the gear.

You don't mention What we're working on, But, If it's a Merc, You need to be in Forward to pull it apart, or reinstall it....
